(80-98-33-12) In Septenber, 1934, in connection with the Atter- ney General's Crime Conference, Goddard was listed as one eof the speakers on the suggested subject "Investiga- tion, Detectton and Apprehensien". The Bureau adutaed the Attorney General that Goddard had been thoroughly | discredited in the fleld of ballistics. It was potnted out that he was then running a private detective agency in Chicage and had ceased his fermer connection with “forthwestern Ontuersity Crime Laboratory. . In June, 1934, Goddard requested a oopy of the Bureau's confidential bulletin “Scientific Aids in Crin- tnal Investtgations". The Bureau declined to furnish thts as tt was part of the confidential manual of tne structtens tssued to Spectal Agents, and Goddard replied "T ean get along very well without your booklet...aince my recollection of its contents indicates that tt con- tatns nothing which your Bureau did not copy fron the Scientific Crime Detectton Laberatory of Northwestern University. In this connection, den'’t you think that an introductory note of credtt to said Laboratory would be appropriate?"
