Belmont, of this Bureau's New York Office, has been in contact with the Officials of the United Nations. In response to your inquiry, Mr. Leon Steinig, the Acting Head of the Department of Social Affairs, and Mr. Adolphe Lelierneux, Deputy Director of the Division of Social Activities of that Department, hava advised that for the moment no additional information is desired from the International Criminal Police Commission besides that specifically set forth in Mr. Laugier's letter to you dated November 20, 1948. ws g iD :| g i b re | i Sa gama tim iis Tat 4 nena, rag At the sane CimS, mre 16218 alse advised that the Social Affairs contemplates holding a conference at Lake Success in the carly part of February to consider what concrete steps can be taken in the furtherance of the program as devised at the conference in Paris, France, last October. He stated that some of the items that might be considered at that time are illicit trafficking in drugs, counterfeiting, juvenile delinquency and steps to be taken to further the crime prevention program. In this respect he mentioned that it aight be desirable to devise a plan whereby statistics on crime occurring throughou the world would be compiled on a standard basis rather than the present different standards on which the various countries interpret and record criminal activity.
