The last time I was asked this question, I gave this answer which I would give today. "Yes, they are radical = aS radical as the Declaration of Independence — or the Sernon on the Mount." It is because you dere to believe that not only "all men are created free and equal", but that there shouldbe "liberty and justice for all" that you are radi- cale and the one who bade all men to act like brothers, made no difference be- tween his white children and the black. I deplore the recent "investigation" of the F BI agents, implying as it did, that your non-discrimination policy toward Negro students constituted proof of veur comsunistic nature, purpose, plan arid intent. when racial democracy can be conSused with communism in the minds of F BI agents, there is cause for alern, it seens to me. Our community hes come a long way in appreciating and under- suancing the policy of Highlander, its princinles, its practice of real democracy. But this faith though fostered for so many years by living proof end example, cannot feil to suffer from the shock of a visit from the F B I in which the school's policy of non-discrimination is given a red tag and label. “3th ell this is mind, I am glad you have written this letter to kr.ddcGrath. Thane jt leads to a definite wnderstanding which will affect a11 future interviews. ith best wishes for you and the rest of the Highlander staff, I remain Your friend, I. ayo us Lus
