HIGHLANIER FOLK SCHOGL , STATEMENT OF PURPOSE, PROGRAM AND POLICY We reaffirm our faith in democracy as a goal that will bring dignity and freecom to all; in democracy as an expanding concept encompassing hivasn reletions from the smallest comunity organizetion to international struce ture; and permesting #11 economic, social, and political activities. Democracy to us means that membership in the human family eutitles all to. freedom of thought and religion, to equal rights to @ livélihood, education and health; to equal opportunity to participate in the cultural life of the community and to equal access to pubiiec services, We hold that democracy is inactive unless workers frre given a full voice in industry through unions; or farmers are given = voice in the market plece through cooperatives; or where freedom of thought end discussion is - Limited; thet democracy is outlawed by legally entrenched discrimination and sepregetion; thet there must be diversity of approach but each step - must be in conformity with the goal, which is dishonored by each undemo~ cratic act. with a democratic goal, we are in a position to fight anything that ets in +22 -or, whether it be totalitarian communism, or fascism or monopoly dominate a capitalism. Tne purpose of the Highlander Folk School is to assist in creating leader- -* fay democracy.
