Sixty-two received gifts from Santa Claus, in the person of Xyles Horton. An original pley was presented, with shadowgrarhs made by the children illustrating tne choral singing. Friends of the school contributed toys, dolls, and gifts. III. EXTENSIOU P.OGRAM 18. NEW ORLEANS One of the most successful organizing drives in the south is that in iJew Orleans, where ten thousand workers have been brought into the union. Eerly in tne year Mr. Fred Peiper, regional directcr of the CIO, called on Highlander to assist him in settinz u> an educational program to instruct these new union members in the techniques of collective bargaining and in sound union principles and practices. Mary Lawrence, who had done extension wors in Louisville, Ky., and Alcoa, Term., Wus assigned to New Orleans. She arrived there April 10.
