Highlander Folk School — Part 3

I see in this world today a struggle between the forces of evil
and the millions of people opposed to those forces. I consider
as the evil forces all of those who continually try to beat down
the other group and who try in many ways to make these people
subject to the rule of themselves. In this class I incluce the
Nazis, Fascists, gangsters, crooked politicians. 'Lords cf the
Press! and last but not least the rich employers who are always
attemption to destroy democratic labor unions.
I remembcr but a short time back the Yugoslav people overthrow-
ing the government that was about to make them subject to the
rule cf Hitler, and I remcembcr too the strike which the employees
of millionairc Ritchie's bus ccmpany called in order to
get a decent standard of living. Both these acts were part of the
fight of the peoples of this werld against Fascism. In the case
of Yugoslavia we sce the part of Fascism called tyranny. In the
bus strike we see the part called inequality.
‘The strikers and the Yugceslavs were fighting for democracy,
for the right to better one's living standards. Beth groups refused
to be pushed around, both were standing up fcr their rights. Bcth
fights were equaily impcrtant,.
Many more examples can be given cf people refusing to be bullied.
The battle now being fcucht by the British, the Russian, the Chinese,
the victories won by the Ford, Bethlehem, and Republic Steel
employees, the underground battle the conquered but net beaten
pecples of ceeupied countries are fighting - - + all these
are the great illustrations cf the determination of the masses
throughout the werld to revclt against tyranny.
I believe that no matter how long the struggle lasts, victory
for the masses is certain. As sccn as it becomes the pcwer be~
hina the government then we will have government of the people,
by the people, and for the pecple."
