concerns the crganizing of the Johns Manville Plants, New_Orleans, La.
Lartin Butz was born September 25, 1914 at LicDonoughville, La. His mother
died when he was scvonyears of Agéy “tn February 3, 1924 he was placed in
the St. Mary's Crphan Asylum, which is a Catholic institution. On October 12,
i323, he was sent to the Hope Haven Home fcr Boys wherehe stayed until
dunc 3, 1934. From his article it is apparent thet he has had a hard time
making a living and is strong for the CIO, hcwever, his article tends to
indicate that altheugh he is strong for labor unions, he does not believe
in any radical change in cur form of Government. ——

Helen Delaneuvillic, United Sugar Workers, Local 1124,
New Orleans, La. This article concerns the organizing cf the employees of
the Sugar Refinery at Reserve, La. Iiss Delaneuville states that the
sugar workers were naking 30¢ per hour end suggested that the sugar workers
strike just before crinding time in mid October when the sugar has te be
ground right away or spoil. She madc the fcllowing statement: " I think
while the Defense Program is on the werkers shculd get all they can get
because when the war is over the worker's wages will be cut. They arn't
eetbine anything now -= what is 30¢ an hour? If you cut thirty cents you
wouldn't have anything." .
