In view of numerous complaints received in the my Knoxville Office of the Bureau concerning Communist : activities at the Highlander Folk School, an investigation ce ts now being made by that Office concerning the School and 4 tts personnel, during 1932 on ground donated by Dr. Lillian Anson, who presently lives in DeLand, Florida, Milespiorton and JamesDombrowski are believed to have been the active organizers of the School. Dr. Johnson donated the land because she believed the School would benefit the local tnhabitants. It has been learned that the School was prganized The Highlander Folk School 48 a labor institution and réceitved tts charter from the State of Tennessee on January 31, 1934. The School was chartered by Miles Horton, Llizebeth=Hawes, James Dombrowski, Rupert™ampton and Malcolm “Zhi skolm, zs The School ts located in Grundy County, Tennessee, a about two miles north of Monteanle, Tennessee, on State Road 56 going toward Tracy City, Tennessee. ts section of the State of Tennessee is mountainous and heavily wooded.
