CX T-12, of known reliability, advised on May 12, 1944, that HAESSLER is ah old-time momber of the Communist Party and is the brother-in-law of WILLIAM WEINSTONE, Coxmunist Party leader in New York City. CI T-5 has closely followed the activities of VINCENT in Chatta- nooga and expresses the opinion that VINCENT is actively pro- Russian and pro-Communist, although actual monbership in the Communist Party itself is not known. According td this informar VINCENT took an active part in‘the work of the Southern Conferer for Human Welfare, is continually distributing literature deemed Communistic in nature by the informant, is.an ardent follower of Roverend CLAUDEYWILLIAMS, who is the head of the Peoples in- stitute of Applied Religion, and was a guiding influence in , Progressive Party activities in Tennessee. T-5 also advised that VINCENT attended the Second World Peace Congress at Shofriel d England, and also the peace conference held in Warsaw, Poland, during 1950, and may also have visited some of the satelite nations ‘of Russia during this trip abroad. VINCENT has beon closely associated with Cormunist Party mombers in Chattanooga and tho informant: advises that VINCENT has a poor opinion of them because of their temerity and lack of activity in Party matters. PR . ~ As previously shown in this report, VINCENT was the organizer of the Progressive Party Group in Chattanooga, one of the spon- sors for the State Confcronco originating the Progressive Party in Tennessee, was elected a mombor of the State Board of Directors, was elected an Elector for the state-at-large, was @ delegate to the National Convention in Chicago, and was, at this Convention, named a monmber of the Resolutions Comittee which formulated policy. -8~
