rant further stated that Eisler catered the United Stetes not primarily for the

Hans Eisler next entered the United States on Jangary 2], 1936, at
the port of New York. The immigration records reflect that his last permanent
resideuce was listed at that time as Vienna, Austria, and his intended future
residence at the time of issuance of his passport was Vienna, Austrie. Eisler
was accompanied by his wife, Louise, also known a6 Lottie Eisler. The knmi-
gration records reflect that on Jame 8, 1938, subject applied to extend his
temporary vise and also applied for immigration te Cuba with permission to

On August 9. 1938, the Immigration authorities directed a letter to
Dr. Alvin Johnson, Director of the New School for Social Research, advising
that Mr. and Mrs. Hans Eisler hed been granted an extension of time until
january 21, 3939, te remain in the United States. Prior to this Eisler had deen
questioned by the bmmigration aad Naturalization Service on June 10, 1938, at
which time he advised that since his entrance in January, 1935, he had been
lecturing under the auspices of the New School for Socie] Research and had
been offered a five~year comtract at $3,000 a year. tn direct answer to the
