from exposure to intense heat.
“ ‘The added and modified components of the four
submitted carbines were examined microscopically. Due
to their burned and corroded condition, these components
bore ionly extremely limited toolrarks of possible value
for identification with suspect tools. It is noted that
the majOrity of the toolmarks remaining on these items were
Produced by filing and drilling operations. Such toolmarks
cannot ordinarily be identified as having been produced
by a specific tool. | .
Present in the chamber ‘of the K66 carbine was a
-30 Carbine caliber cartridge case which had apparently
"cooked-off. The "LC 53". headstamp present on this
cartridge case indicates it was manufactured for military
use by the Lake City Ordnance Plant. Numerous previously
submitted .30 Carbine caliber cartridges and cartridge cases
bearing the same headstamp were recovered from the hallwav
closet at 1827 Golden Gate Avenues, San Francisco, California
- (specimen 21044, Laboratory report PC-K7449 PR, dated
May 24, 1974), the apartment at 833.West 84th Street, Los
Angel's, California (specimens Q1573 _through Q1575, Laboratory
report PO-LO215 PR UA, dated August. 26, 1974) and the 1964
Chevrolet station wagon bearing California License HJU 792
(specimen Q1646,: Laboratory report PC-L0708.PR, dated
August 7, 1974).: Also, an empty. Lake City Ordnance Plant.

The test bullets and cartridge cases obtained from
the four submitted carbines were microscopically compared
to the previously submitted .30 caliber bullets and bullet
fragments | and the .30 ‘Carbine caliber cartridge cases withcut
effecting an identification. . Although the rifling impressions
pressut in the Q@& through ‘Q11, Q14 and Q54 bullet and bullet
fragments revovered at 2603 and 2607 Benvenue Street, San
Francize,. California, ‘(Laboratory reports PC-K5272 PR JA,
