When the gunfire ceased he again looked in the ~
vicinity of Mel's Sporting Goods Store and the people that
had been lying on the sidewalk had disappeared, At that time

of Mel's Sporting Goods Store and a Negro male was runn ote
across Crenshaw Boulevard in the direction of where he ie
was Standing. .The Negro male came within ten to twelve
him and disappeared from view southeast of the Chevron Station
in the Crenshaw-Imperial Shopping Center. He did not see where
the Negro male went as his view was blocked by the service
= station building. At about the time he lost sight of the Negro -
- male he saw two Inglewood Police Department squad cars come into
the area. One of these squad cars was proceeding east on
Imperial Boulevard and one was going south on Crenshaw Boulevard,
His thoughts were that the Negro male had robbed Mel's Sporting
Goods Store and was trying to make his get away in the parking
lot of the shopping center. Upon seeing the two squad cars he
assumed the police officers would apprehend the Negro male and
he did not pay too much attention to what else might have gone
on in front of Mel's Sporting Goods Store other than people
started to congregate, , ; . os
advised further that upon the ceasing of the
gunfire one of the Chevron Service Station attendants, who he
could describe only as having red hair, ran into the service _
station office and the other attendant, who he could describe
only as being dark compleeted, ran to the emergency telephone
located on a red pole at the southeast corner of Imperial
Highway and Crenshaw Boulevard, The dark complected attendant
waS questioned as to whether or not he recalled
seeing any vehicles parked in the west end of the shopping cen-.
ter parking lot, adjacent to the sidewalk which is located °
directly south of where he was standing. He said that to the.
best of his recollection there were no vehicles at all parked
