terested in talking to BENENSON concerning this matter.
and BENENSON indicated he would come to the FBI office in
Berkeley. However, he was still somewhat hesitant and ane
delayed going directly to the FBI office then walked into
Penny's store located at Allston Way and Shattuck Avenue.
While in the store he was approached by several individuals.
who identified themselves as FBI Agents and he accompanied
them to the FBI office in Berkeley. In that office he was
introduced to Agent qi) «He turned over to Agent
‘the rope, the blindfold and the gag which he obtained from
his‘ Army-type jacket which he was carrying in the plastic bag.
When asked how he had the presence of mind to retain
tne above items he stated he truthfully did not know. He did
note that he was well away from the area where he had been
abandoned in his own car when he finally succeeded in removing
his bonds, gag and blindfold.
BENENSON was asked why, in his opinion, he was chosen
as the victim of a kidnaping and car theft, which car was used
to transport kidnaped victim PATRICIA HEARST. BENENSON replied
that in his opinion he was simply chosen on the spur of the
moment by some people who desperately needed a car with a large
trunk, and needed it in a hurry.
BEWENSON was asked why he believed, as a primary
witness, that he was not killed by his aba@uctors. He replied
that his captors took pains not to expose themselves to him
visually, nor to talk in any way in front of him which would
tend to identify then. a
BENENSON advised he was extremely upset by the
proceedings he had undergone and upon his escape from the .
car after it was parked on Tanglewood Street, he had considered
advising the police department. However, he felt he-was a
victim in a matter in which he had no proof there was anyone
else involved. He acknowledged he had heard shots fired but
' Gid not know that they were anything but warning shots and if
someone had been shot he felt it was possibly an. assassination
type involvement between rival groups. Therefore, he resolved
in his own mind that he would immediately report this matter
to the police but would wait to hear if anything additional had
happened in this matter. He was not aware of the kidnaping of
