In further preparation for this kidnapping, he stated, he arrived at the Pigure of $699,000 as ransom as he had read previously that a million dollers would w-igh a-great deal and thats he estimated that $600,000 in $1.0 and $20 bille would mks a bundle weigning around 65 pounds, and thet this amount would conveniently te carried and yet that it would be a subetantial wmountto-cover his needs. He also aivired in preperation thas’ he putin the fiert ransom letter instroctions relative to the duffel bag because a duffel bag was big, sturdy and would not tear easily if tavosn from a moving vehicis at the seene of the pay-off. GREENLEASR’s address from the telephone book of Kansas City, Missouri. | HALL stated that the only identification he used in the preparation of the first rancom letter wae the letter "M." He could give no particular - reason for using this ietter, stating he might just as well have used *G," ...---- B or any ether letter, but just picked "M" at random. Also, in connection ~ wives the ransom note, HALL stated that ha asked Mr, GRERNLEASE thet the ransoh. money be obtained in small bills, $10 and $20°s, from the twelve separate i Federal Rexerve Banks throughout the United States. He stated that the reazon that he did this was of course, the smaller bills could be-passed at any atore without any unusual circumstances surrounding the bill itself and that the twelve different federal reserve banks would make it more difficult for aryora to trace in the event the money was serialized.
