Jackson was incarcerated at San Quentin Prison, California, when, during a violent riot and attempted prison break, he ran into the prison yard and was shot and killed by a guard on August 11, 1971. Immediately following the guilty plea, Brown was transported by the U.S. Marshal's Office, Portland, Oregon, and was lodged in the Alderson Women's Federal Penitentiary, West Virginia.
