Also, it was revealed Barasch controlled Churchill Associates, a New Jersey organization which administered these welfare and pension funds. In January, 1965, the U. S. Attorney at New York and the Department decided no prosecution could be considered concerning this matter In June, 1965, the Senate Committee on Government - Operations of which Senator John L. McClellan (D-Ark.) was | chairman, conducted hearings regarding this situation. / Barasch and others involved in the matter repeatediy refused to testify on the grounds of the Fifth Amendment. a, on 7/10/68, a Ww Yor ice at Barasch used funds of the Churchill Associates: for his salary and for "educational purposes,'' the latter consisting of small cultural seminars held at New York City. In 1966, Senator Eugene J. McCarthy (D~Minn.) spoke at one of these seminars and was paid a fee, probably in the amount of $1,000. considers this as an indiscretion on the part of Senator McCarthy who should have known of the activities of Barasch before a Senate | committee.
