WAR DEPARTMENT M. I. D. WSHDBTON 25, D.C. ——__15 July 1947 (Date) Subject: aveRICaN SOCIETY FOR CULTURAL RELATIONS WITH ITALY. Summary of Information: "He atated that POLLOCK told him *This is big political stuff. We wust de careful of every move we make, We must avoid discussion of eny kind, except on cultural relations, because of the FBI". He advised that letters were sent to persons asxing them whether they ‘are interested in better cultural relations with the Italian veople, and if eo, to return a card which was enclosed with the letters. He said those who returned the cards were noted as sponsors. He informed ue that Mr: CRALB showed him a pile of letters. One letter was from forwer Mayor LaGUARDIA who replied he did not think he could join right now. Another letter was from Kre, Kleanor-ROCSEV=LT, who said she was too basy. When asked whether he heard the naves of Edward’ FERKJIS - Manager, Anerican Exort Line, and Charles F0SsS, UNiRA Director in Italy, mentioned in any of the conferences, he replied he did not. Ke r _ Stated that the nane of the Treasurer of subject organization Anthony « CAPRARO, was mentioned, and that there was a great deal of discussion about the former Prime Minister, Ferrucct PAI, He informed us that Frederick WOLTHAl, of the World Telegram, spoke to the Secretary to the Italian Anbassador, and was informed that the Italian Anbassador had to be at the dinner, otherwise the Italim Governzen vould out som pressure on hir.
