Roosevelt invited Joseph Lash to the dincer party when the Chie? Justice Harlan Fiske Stone was the ranking guest and that she singled out Lash for @ seat at the table of honor. She states that “re. Roosevelt used her positicn {2 attempting to obtain a commission in the Intelligence Branch of either the Army or the Navy for Lash but that he was turned down by both services on the basis of his Civilian activities and was subsequently drafted. The author tells on page 290 of a vieit by Mre. Roosevelt to a =sr -:-y ‘post near Miami, Florida, where she was taken to Private Lash's barracks anc that he then "to the envy of his comrades, entered General Wooten's open car and accsmpenisd the off2cial party on a tour of the post....Sbhortly after her wisit Lash was ordered to Bolling Field, near Washington, before being transfsrred to Koumeia in the South Pacific. t t .
