Gt the Froebel High School in Gary, Indiana, caused by serious
“friction between the Negro and white students at the achool. In.
_ order to counteract the action of the white students in refusing
_. to attend classes with the Negroes, the Chicago Office of the
- dmertean Youth for Democracy organtxed a special rally at
Orchestra Holl in Chicago ot which Danny Kaye appeared as the
princtpal speaker, The rally took place on October 1, 1945,
and all Chieago high echool students were tnutted tn order to
Prevent similar outbursts tn Chicago achnole.

The "Daily People's world” tn tts tssue of September 26,
1945, carrted an article reflecting that the fall senester of
the Hollywood branch of the People's Educational Center opened
on September 2d, 1945, and that the emphasis of the teaching
program would be upon peace and postewar problems and new
cultural hortzons. Particular publictty was piven to the motion
Picture tndustry which had brought before tie students filn
Personaltttes, among whom was Danny Kaye. It ta noted that
the "Datly People's World” ts a west coast daily Conauntst -
publication and the People's Zducational Center has been cited
by the Attorney General of the United States as a Connunist
organization.
The "Washington Post" of October 27, 21927, contained a
statement of the Comatttee for the First Amendment which protested
"the continuing attempt of the House Committee on Unednertcan
Activities to emear the motion picture industry." Among ‘those
