@ SAC, SEATTLE (164-81) 11/26/71 SA THOMAS J. MANNING UNSUB; NORTHWEST AIRLINES FLIGHT #305, PORTLAND TO SEATTLE, 11/24/71 CAA - HIJACKING; DXTORTION 00: SEATTLI. On 11/25/71, a search of pertinent area as furnished by Uorthwest Airlines personnel, commenced. Ground search initiated on 11/25/71, in limited way. On 11/26/71, two Army helicopters from Gray Field, one Veyerhauser Company helicopter and a Bonneville Pover AGdninistration helicopter, were utilized in covering a area of search, including the route of the hijacked plane from Lake HNerwin on the north, to the vicinity of Battle Ground, on the south. Due to weather conditions, only three of six sections were able to be covered. Ground search negative except for an area in the north easterly quadrant of the search, where two individuals made comments concerning los flying aircraft at pertinent time. One individual advised the craft was so low that it shook their house and this time was fixed at approximately 8:20 PM, but no positive time could be given. This individual stated that weather conditions at that time in this area, were nisting rain. A second individual in the Anboy, Washington vicinity, advised that at approxinately 8:00 PN, with nisting rain, conditions, a low flying jet plane, qoing north to south and unusually low, was sited. ALL THE LIGHTS on this plane, including the cabin lights, were going on and off.
