UNIDENTIFIED object high on a bluff on the south side of the
lake, a short distance from the flight pattern of the hijacked
aircraft. Attempts were made by helicopters to view this
unidentified object with negative results due to hazardous
flying conditions, low clouds and rain storms. This item will
be the subject of intensive search immediately by helicopters
taking off on 11/27/71, and will be considered a prime search
area.
It is felt that the pilot and crew of the hijacked
aircraft should be questioned concerning the lights on the
plane going off, from 8:00 to 8:15 PH, to determine if this
was in fact the hijacked aircraft. Further, it is felt
that the crew of this plane should be asked a specific
question of why they continued the flight to Reno, when the
feeling of the pilot and crew was that the subject exited the
plane at or about the Lake Merwin vicinity.
Further it is felt that the pilot and crew should be
specifically asked if they had visual sitings of landmarks
on course of the hijacked aircraft, particularly in the
suspected drop area. It is to be noted in ths regard, that a
flashing radio beacon at Kalama, Washington, could have
been viewed by the hijacker at the altitude which the
plane was flying at that time.
Intensive search with four helicopters will be
resumed at approximately 8:30 AM, 11/27/71, with
concentration of search area being in the vicinity of the
east side of plotted line per conversation with SAC.
