In the past Atlanta hes not furnished such information directly to ABERNATHY, but: has followed the policy of immiiately passing the information ” on to an appropriate official of the Atlanta Police | Department, who in turn advises ABERNATHY. This policy was established several years ago, when MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. was President of SCLC, due to the fact KING was traveling extensively and was not cooperative when efforts were made to locate hia in Atlanta for the purpose of advising him of threate against his life, It now appears that some advantage may be gained by changing the existing policy of informing ABERNATHY regarding receipt of information relating to threats againat his life. It is felt that by notifying ABERNATHY directly upon receipt of information relating to threats against his iife, some rapport aay be developed with hia at this particular time when the possibility exists of him being concerned about his possible assass- ination as well ag his position as President of SCLC being shaky and the possible taking over of his position by Mra. CORRTTA KING. Another strong factor of a counter intelligence nature to consider in changing the existing policy to notify ABERNATHY directly would be the diaruptive effect of confusing and worrying him by reminding him of continuous threats against his life. It is recommended that in the future upon receipt of euch information, Atlanta notify ABERNATHY directly and in turn notify appropriate officials of the Atlanta Police Department. - a
