conrMpENTIA STOP THE DRAPT WEEK | | OCTOBER 16 ~ 21, 1967 Ethel Taylor, Coordinator of Philadelphia WSP, stated that those who refused to go should be supported and that she would rather be a draft dodger than a murderer. ime Fred Moore spoke and identifie as one who has previously served a prison term for r to obey the draft. He stated that he was interrupting the rally to report that one of the group, Jim Hart, had been arrested by the police for no reason and that Gregg Carlson had stood in front of the patrol wagon and was likewise arrested and taken away. Moore urged that those present stand together in the event of similar arrests and that they Jet no one else be taken away from the rally. Bob Heisler, National Educational Director of DCA, spoke on the Ronald Lockman Case. Lockman is a Philadelphia soldier who was previously affiliated with the DCA who refused to fight in Vietnam. He said the DCA will support all soldiers like Lockman who refused to go to Vietnam. He said soldiers like Lockman speak for all of us. Fred (Wilfred) Batchelder, Head of the Veterans and Reservists for Peace in Vietnam, said tha. ne was in World War II, and he made his decision then and now these boys have made their decision and have refused to go. He admired them for their courage and pledged support to those who have guts enough to say “Hell no, I won't go." Daniel Silverman, Organizer of The Resistance in Philadelphia, stated that "we" must resist the draft. We must react those with money and influence. We must change the attitude of the people from apathy to acti. He said he would refuse to carry Selective Service cards, refuse to cooperate with the draft, and would help others who wwuld doa likewise. Those who said they were sending back their draft cards’ to Selective Service and who made a brief statenent were as follows: ,
