This letter was found b; after the June 12, 1951, interview in a package of letters to be answered. The letter was received by her at the end of April or beginning of May, 1951, 4 few days after BURGESS telephoned to say goodbye. The envelope is not available. "Dear (seen: “Just a short note following our telephone conversation to return you your cheque. I hate having to borrow money in un- forseen & unforseeable emergencies even from goed friends & was very glad I was able to avoid cashing it. However if you had not “had the kindness to provide it I wld. have been very worried, being with my mother & Fort Sumter being as expensive as it was. With it there were no worries and we had a truly wonderful time and indeed from our point of view tho not yours I fear the car breakdown was & blessing in disguise. it enabled us to spend a whole week (by forcing us) in Charleston & getting to know it a little. Even a week was far too short.
