Mile I was being held by the State Police and Burgess had returned to Petersburg, Va. for the purpose of cashihg a check to pay my fine the State Police asked me if I would be willing to help them to prevent Burgess from driving hie car in Va. and help them get him out of the Comtry. I said that I would. The State Police then typed up a summary of the way that Burgessdrove his car in Va. This summary consisted of tion that The State Police had received from both Burgess and myself. on t/ statement was prepared I merely glanced over it without reading eo ad to be sure that the/statement was against Burgess and not against me. I signed the summary statement. I did not make this statement under oath or in any way swear to the truth of it. As ea Burgeas gave the State Police the informatia as to the length of time he had knom me and I did not check the accuracy of this in the summary statement. 9 + fm I wish to restate at this tis€ that the facts relative to/acquaintance with Burgess are cor merepresented in the signed state ment I gave to eg on dune 13, Ue nail as I can recall I was arrested with Burgess the first of second week of April of 1951.
