This information regardin wrender and his reported information regarding instant murder was immediately brought to the at 3 the proper authori- ties in Los Angeles, who subsequently disclaim tatement and were somewhat oritioal of the fact that they had been bothered with suoh information . [expressed bitter criticism of the manner in which the Los Angeles Police Department publicized criticism toward the Sheriffts Office regarding QUEM tatonont to officials of Jefferson County. LS advised that immediately preoeding the tin was trensferred from the County Jail at Waurika on August 12, 1947, to Bolivar, Missouri, to answer charges pending acainst him for car theft made e final oral statement, vic RR he was not CSiliieiemeae to the Los Angeles police beoause o ® objectionable attitud feels _ that was sh the Los eles Police Department. In this final statement, A according t eclared that he had fired the fatal slots which killed SIEGEL and that he used a carbine rifle. He stated that a short time following the murder he disposed of the weapon by throwing it into a 1 lake ne hway leading into Oak Ridge, Oregon, from the cov informe: that this lake ia between the highway and a railway trac about one mile south of Oak Ridge. He further advised that he walked around the lake looking for a deep place in which to throw the weapon and finally disposed of it by throwing it in the lake at a point nearest the highway. after volunteering this information, reque sted that it be bx treated in the striotest confidence, and he repeated his desire to withhold this informati the Los Angeles Police Department because of their lack of interest in riginal confession. is of interest to note that ED - ubsequ bx is the above information, confirmed the fact that made such a statement wtf de Sep 2 1947 H i he
