JOSEPH ROSS, . On September 16 and 17, 1916, the writer contacted Postmaster, Beverly Hills, ifornia Post Office, concerning SIG general hoodlum oncom: A 3 that in his opinion the~ Lutze Garace in Beverly Hills is = ;, @ civic administration in Beverly Hilis. Allegedly, this refusal was occasioned t that many hoodlums hang out in this garage and are acquainte and apparently some persons thought that cars for rent might provide an easy means of transportation during the hold ups and murders. In discussing the local picture, the informant w his nen ° ‘ed that the best way to catch up with SIEGEL and other bigtime hoodiums would be to have a man working in in ::--, this man 6 eing an PBY Agent or person giving informa- ne tion. He is positive that annot remain out of jail very long because of the manner in which he is operating and went on to say that someone planted in his office would soon show the tie-up between law enforcement and ho in ‘this area. Also, he gave as example of a "smart politician” who according to his own statement spent in excess of $10,000 in the recent political campai e informant said that if this were true that he is of the opinion tha robably spent $142,000 because over the years he has done favors for many people and this is the first chance these persons would ha to return these favors. In other words, those individuals wh as befriended politically in the past would now contribute funds ostensibly for oampaign purposes, a portion of which LYONS could and is expected to pocket. Discussing the situation in Beverly zil1s, GPs that the | town is full of hoodlums and that he considers the present Chief of Police a joke. He went on to say that "If I were a hoodlum, I would want himto stay in office.” Because he is of the opinion that the Chief being the type he is, hoodlums have nothing t about as long as he remains in office. : Inference was gained here tha was not dishonest, but he was not to bright. i 1
