APPROX July 29, 1971 SOLIDARITY RALLY FOR HIGH POINT FOUR, HIGH POINT, NORTH CAROLINA JULY 25, 1971 RACIAL MATTERS - BLACK PANTHER PARTY Reference is made to memorandum dated July 20, 1971, at Charlotte, North Carolina, regarding captioned matter. The Black Panther Party (BPP) is a black extremist organization started in Oakland, California, in December, 1966. It advocates the “ use of guns and guerrilla tactics to bring about the overthrow of the United States Government. On July 24, 1971, an article appeared in the High Point Enterprise, High Point, North Carolina, a daily newspaper, announcing plans for captioned rally at 2:00 P.M., July 25, 1971, at Washington Terrace Park, noting LARRY’ LITTLE, a leader of the Winston Salem, North Carolina, chapter of the National Committee to Combat Fascism, predicted 2,000 persons would attend rally.
