Tt has been a contention of the Los Angeles Police Department detectives that the person who murdered ELIZABETH SHORT had some training or knowledge of surgery or a related science, due to the mamner in which the body of the victim was mutilated and bisected at the waist. Lt. LEE requested that the files of the Bureau be reviewed to ascertain, if possible, the dates when DEMARA was in California, and when he might have been released from Navy barracks st San Pedro, a suburb of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Depart- ment has indicated no data reflecting DEMARA is a suspect in the Black Dahlia killing, and desires to know whether DEMAKA might have a provable alibi for his locatim on January 15, 1947, which would eliminate him as a possible suspect in this murder. As the Bureau has in the past furnished considerable assistance on this case to the Los Angeles Police Lepartment, it is requested that Bureeu’files and records of the Identification Division be reviewed for data of possible assistance, to the Los Angeles Police Department regarding FERDINAND WALDO DEMARACOOR.
