The program was described as a BEXTOLT SHECHT evening at which BRECHT would render some of hie new poems. Other persons perticipating with BRECHT were listed as: ELIZABETH BEXGWEK, HFERTHANGLAZ, GRETA-WILLELS, HURBE&? SERGHOF , WIELAND HERZFELUB. FRIEDRICH GEORG XAN was to direct the program, whish” . was described as a "closed" meeting t6 which members of the above organisations were invited. ; source QR ats0 advisea thet on vay 10, 1943, BEXT BXECH? cooperated in putting on a program in honor of the tenth anniversary of the burning of books on the same date in 1933, aocording to another advertisesent sppearing™ in the May 7, 1943, issue of “Aufbau.” According to this advertisement, the - program was held at the Studio Theate@, 66 Test 12th Street, New York. Other persons cooperating in this program afe not being repeated here. This program was also under the direction of FHIEDKICH GEORGE ALEXAE, and it appears that the Joint Committee for the Reatoration of Burned and Banished Books in Purepe, the New School for Social Research, Die Tribune Fuer Freie Deutsche Literatur und Kunst, and other organizations were sponsors of the progran. SOURCE P| This source advised that on about Nay 16, 1943, BERT BRECHT returned to Santa Monica, California, from Kew York City. This source reflects that in May 1945 telephone calls made from the BRECHT residence for the previous three months had been ascertained. It will be noted that this period coincides with that during which BRECHT was in New York. Among the persons called from the BRECHT residence during thie time were PETER LOKKE, ALEXANDER! GRANACE, Mre. HEINRICHQANN, LUDWIGYARCUSE, WILLIAM DIETERLE, and OSCAR\HOWOLK. ; s source reflects tntorafiton from Confidential National Defenses Informant to the effect. that on the evening of May 29, 1943, a meeting, ; the nature of which was unknown, was held at the residence of BEKT BRECRT. I According to this source, FRITZ KORTHER was present at this meeting. ' PRITZ KORTHEK is known to this office as a person who has expressed enthusiasm over the Free German Committee in Moscow and the manifesto issued by 1%, and has indicated himself as being in favor of supplanting the Nari government with a Commnist government.
