the bridge into a quor store parking lot and thereafter, pro-
ceeded back across the James - Jackson Bridge in the direction
of Interstate 285.

This vehicle was stopp as aded south o nterstate 5 at
which time the sole occupant of the vehicle was Wayne Bertram __]
Williams.
At the time the vehicle was stopped, observed in the
vehicle were: (1) a large plastic bag of what appeared to be
women's clothing in the back of the station wagon; (2) hairs
which appeared to be dog hairs on the floor of the back; (3) a
brown paper bag on the floor of the front seat containing men's
clothing consisting of dark colored trousers, black shoes, a
pair of white jockey shorts, and a tank top; and (4) a two-foot
white, nylon cord in the back of the station wagon. The
configuration of the station wagon was that the back seat was
down creating additional space.
During interview pursuant to the stop, Williams stated
he was attempting to locate an address of a woman who wanted to
speak to him about a job and that he was to meet this woman in
the morning of 5/22/81. Williams further stated that after cross-
ing the James - Jackson Bridge he traveled past the liquor store
to a "Starvin Marvin" store where he tried unsuccessfully to con-
tact this woman. APD recruit advised Williams did not pro- hic
ceed to store mentioned supra bu urned around at the liquor a
Store 100 feet south of the bridge, recrossed the bridge and
headed north toward Interstate 285. Williams denied throwing
anything out of the car while on the bridge and stated that he
had been hunting for empty box cartons at the liquor store. Williams
further stated that there were two other vehicles, on the bridge at
the time he was crossing over the bridge. Williams provided the

name of the woman he was to meet as Cheryl Johnson, telephone num-
ber 934-7766, Subsequent investigation determined a recorded mes-
sage at the number indicating a change to telephone number 768-2710,
which is listed for "Merle Norman Cosmetics," with no one answering
the telephone knowing of a Cheryl Johnson.
On 5/24/81 at approximately 12:00 noon, the body of
Nathaniel Cater was found on the bank of the Chattahoochee River
approximately two miles downstream from the James - Jackson Bridge.
The medical examiner determined cause of death was asphyxiation
with the body having been in the water several days.
