WARFIELD advised some time during the negotiations
USPC decided to purchase ail of the outstanding stock of
Pacific Tankers, Inc., rather than the two tankers. He ad-
visod that Pacific Tankers, Inc., had a contract with the
United States Navy covering the opcration of Navy ships at
the time of this sale. Howevor, this contract was not
transferred but retained and opcrated under a4 separate
company, which is presently !mown as Pacific Tankers
Division of Joshua Hendy Corporation.
WARFITELD acvised the he and other officials of
Pacific Tankers, Inc., were aware that ONASSIS had some, if
not a great amount of, control over USPC, but does not recall
the citizenship status of Cil\SSIS or USPC. He further stated
that efforts were made to ascertain their citizenship status
‘and an affidavit was furnished by USPC which reflected that
&@ majority of the officers and stockholders of that corp-
- oration were Inited States citizens. He advised that the
original of this affidevit was furnished to the United States
Maritime Commission and a copy of the same retained in the
files of Pacific Tankers, inc., presently | in the custody --
of McCONE.
