this sale. He informed thet he and J. M. WARFIELD each held-=7.:
about 3 per cent interest in Pacific Tankers, Inc. and felt .'-- -:
thet the sale should not be made. He further informed that
no brokers were involved in this transaction.
With reference to question 61 of the above-mentioned
memorandum, Mr, CARTER advised that the name of the officers
of Pacific Tenkers, Inc. as of January

In accition, he acvised that the following individuals
were directors of Pacific Tankere as of January 20, 1949: J. AL.
McCONE, J. W. HANES, J. M. FRANKLIN, E, J. MOHAN, 8. D. BECHTEL,
K. K, BECHTEL, and ALDEN ROACH. He informed that en effort a
was made by Pacific Tankers, Inc. to determine the citizenship
of USPC and they learned thet this organization wea dominated
by Greek interests. In this regard, he advised that one
ARISTOTLE ONASSIS was the moving factor behind USPC, and an
individual of large resources. CARTER indicated that ONASSIB
handled negotiations for USPC but he did not recall whether
he handled them directly or indirectly. It was the opinion
of Mr. CARTER that the transaction with the USPC wae "clean as
@ hound's tooth* and thet he could see nothing wrong with it. .
He stated that he severed his relations with Pacific Tankers
in June, 1949; that he ie presently not engaged in any law
businese, but ia employed ae a consultant by a number of firme;
that he was in the Navy until the end of World War I and again
entered eervice in World War II, ae an Admiral.
