According to the article, the Conference on Peaceful Alternatives was the Conference held in Washington, D. C. the previous week-end by 125 civic leaders at the call of Albert Einstein, Themas Mann, Miss Emily Green Balch, Bishop W. J. Wails and Rev. Edwin Dahlberg.
