Sa subpoena in person as required, Snecial agents of the United States Buresu of Investigation, upon request, immedictely began sn investiration for the purpose of establishing the troth or falsity of the affidavit. This investigation disclosed that between Janunry 13 and March 5, 1929, Capone had freqmently attended the races at the Miami Jockey Club, The Hialeah Race Track, Florida, and had frequently appeared in putlic in apparently good health during the time when the effidavit alleged he was in bed, The investigation revealed further that between January 13 and March 5, 1929, Capone, in addition to having attended the rnces regularly, hed made a trip by boat and another trip by aeroplane from Miami, Florida, to the Bahama Islaids and return. Special arerts of the United States Bureau of Investigetion obtained affidavits from five police officiels and an employee a* the race track to the effect that Capone had attended the races on a number of occasions betweer. January 13 end March 5, 192, at which times he had appeared to be in good health. 4A pilot for a flying service at Miami, Florida, made affidavit that on February 2, 192, he had piloted 4 certain see plene from Miami, Florida, +o Bimini, Behana Islands, British West Indies, and return, carrying es passengers Al Capone and three other individuals, end that Capone appeared to be in good health during the entire trip, An affidavit was obtained from an officisl of a ateamship line operating between Miamt, Florida, end Nassau, Rahama Islands, British West Indies, stating that om February 8, 192°, while checking the passenger lists of one of his compmy's vessels, he personally observed Alphonse Capone, together with Alfred Capone end severel other individusls on the deck of one of the company’s boats as it departed for the Bahamas, \T3 - Oe rm ee oe orc ee i ee ee ere ee oe ee ee ae
