In June 1954, OPPENHEIMER was denied security clearance and access to classified government information by the United States Atomic Energy Commission. This Commission found that OPPENHE IMER'S "continuing conduct and associations have reflected &@ serious disregard for the requirements of the Security System...(and) have found a Susceptibility to influence which could have serious implications for the Security interests of the country." In 1943, OPPENHEIMER stated that "he was not a Communist, but had probably belonged to every Communist-front association on the West Coast and signed many petitions in which Communists were — Duds
