UNKNOWN SUBJECTS; BOMBING OF BAPTIST CHURCH, 16TH
STREET, BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA, SEPTEMBER 15, 1963
sections of the country were responsible for the bombing

Reverend Walter E. Fauntroy, Washington, D. C.,
representative of the Southern Christian Leadership
Conference (SCLC), conducted a brief prayer for the victims
of the Birmingham, Alabama, bombing.
Inspector Sullivan stated the other individuals
who participated in the ceremony were Rabbi Eugene J,
Lipman of Washington, D. C., Reverend Dr. Evans E. Crawford,
Dean of Howard University, Reverend David G. Coldwell,
President, Council of Churches of Greater Washington, .
and Reverend Duncan Howlett, Pastor of All Souls!
Unitarian Church, Inspector Sullivan stated the ceremony
ended at about 4:05 P.M., and the marchers began to sing
"We Shall Overcome." Inspector Sullivan stated many of
the marchers departed the area but 200 or 300 watched
12 members of the American Nazi Party who were counter-
picketing in front of the White House in khaki uniforms
and carrying banners.
