At approximately 10:19 a.m., Central Standard Time (CST), 9/1
the 16th Street Baptist Church, located at 16th Street and 6th
Avenue, North, Birminghan, Alabama, was bombed. This is a large

The rear end of the church was badly damaged, A fire
jjmarshal in Birmingham estimated that 10 sticks of dynamite had been
dropped on the road surface near the church and ignited with a fuse-
type igniter, He estimated the damage to the church would run as
high as $20,000 to $30,000,
