a rsent a } Office Memor. ndum * UNITED a GOVERNMENT : D. M. IADD 4 DATE: August 6, 1947 FROM : E. G. Fitch SUBJECT: Aaymnc SAUCERS Special Agent S.W. Reynolds of the Liaison Section contacted lieutenant Colonel C. P. Martin, Army Air Forces Intelligence, inquiring about an article which appeared in the West Cast newspapers recently stating in substance that an airplane carrying recovered flying saucers crashed in route from Portlami, Oregon, to Ios Angeles, California. FESSRREER REE Colonel Martin advised Mr. Reynolds that the only informtion that has been received by Headquarters of the Army Air Forces is that a CIc Agent of the 4th Air Force& Headquarters, Hamilton Field, San Francisco, was killed in an airplane crash. The Headquarters of the Air Forces have been advised that he was ona top secret mission. Colonel Martin indicated that he was under the impression that the CIC Agent was either on route to or from an interview with Mr. Arnold who is one of the individuals who first saw orm of the flying saucers. Z Colonel Martin suggested that the San Francisco Field Off fe contact Colonel j Springer, Headquarters 4th Air Forcey, Hamilton Field, San pees who SL undoubtedly would be able to furnish the details regarding this matter which are at this time unknowm by the Headquarters of the Air Forces. Colonel irtin pointed out to Mr. Reynolds, however, that it was his belief that no flying saucers have been recovered but that it was merely an attempt to reintervisw “an indi individual who _previously had reported seeing one of the flying saucers.
