Hathaway DATE: 8 February 1949 AACS/A-2/CCR/m1b/2113 FROM AACS A-2 COMMENT NO. 1 SURES Sighting of "Flying Discs" A strong possibility exists that the "flying disc" might have been a piece of cardboard, or light metallic substance carried aloft by the funneled air currents over Hickam. The nearby cane fields give off a considerable amount of moisture, thereby creating a "dead space." ‘Ihe prevailing winds striking this area are directed up- ward over the field, and hence could carry inanimate objects up with them. Then, too, the altitude given could be considerably off, inasmuch as the ob- ject sighted was thin. Judging heights of such objects is difficult enough, even if the object were 3 - 4 feet in thickness.
