STATEMENT
9 December 1916
I, Jonea 8. Doty, Sorgoant, USAF, AP 1727186, Yeather Observer,
16th Weather Squadron, Chanute Air Fores Base, Chanute Field, illinois,
do harety make the following statement to Captain Rugh T, Kelley,
Ageistent Base Keathsr rficer.
mn 6 Dectnbdor 1918 at approximately 181.6 hours, 1 was walking
with Sgt. Bugene S, Montag towards the Base eather Station when I
happened to look up ot the sky and notice what appaarsd to be either
@ oky rocket or meteor. I tapped Sct, Montag on the erm and called
ide attention to it.
The object did uct appear to be o star beeause it was three or
four tines as large es @ star and it seemed to be closer to us than
& eter would be. It was heeding froa the north east toward the
south south wat and weg moving upwards at sbout 15 or 20 degree angle.
4g it moved it seemed to got larger, and it was leaving a trail. In
about two or three seconds it dimeppoared, The object wes round, white
and soved vory fast.
Ye wont inte the Wether Station and reported this to the Duty
Forecaster whose naze is M Sgt. Robert W, Fillman,
AP 17171864
