History of the List:.
In October of 2001, then-President George W. Bush announced the creation
of the "Most Wanted Terrorists" list. The 22 terrorists originally on the list were
indicted for various acts of terrorism against the United States.

The list is a valuable tool that assists the FBI in its efforts to apprehend.

Who manages the list?.
The program is managed by the Counterterrorism Division's (CTD) National.
Threat Center Section. Each year the section canvasses the field for nominations of
international and domestic terrorism subjects for addition to the list. The nominees
received are reviewed by Special Agents in CTD. The selection of the "proposed'
candidate(s) is forwarded to FBI executive management for final approval..
What are the criteria for being named to the Mwt list?
The terrorist must:.
Have threatened the security of United States nationals or the national.
security (national defense, foreign relations, or the economic interests) of.
the United States;
Be considered a dangerous menace to society;
Have indicated a willingness to commit, or indicate to commit, an act to
cause death or serious bodily injury; prepare or plan terrorist activity;
gather information on potential targets for terrorist activity; or solicit
funds or other things of value for terrorist activity;
Have provided material support such as currency or financial services or
assistance to a terrorist group/organization, but does not necessarily have.
to belong to a terrorist organization;.
Be subject to lawful detention, either by the United States government
based upon an active federal warrant for a serious felony offense, or any
other lawful authority;
Be the subject of a pending FBI investigation; and
Worldwide publicity must be able to assist in the apprehension of the
terrorist.
