D. Bremai 1 - Mr. Dalbey PURposE: To advise you of the latest developments regarding the eviction of Indians from Alcatraz Island and the occupation of an. inactive U. S. Army Nike missile site, Richmond, California, by. a. group of 50 individuals.. BACKgRouND: Our San Francisco Office advised that approximately. D IEREIN 40 Indians demonstrated in front of the Federal Office Building at San Francisco on June 15, 197l, protesting their eviction from Alcatraz Island. A portion of this group proceeded to the U. No attempt was made byay of the demonstrators EO enter FBI space and no arrests were made. 32141- On June 14, 197l, approximately 50 individuals primarily of the Indian race entered the 25 acre inactive U. S. Army Nike missile site at Richmond, California. Part of the. group consists of Indians evicted on June ll, l97l, from Alcatraz sland by U. S. Marshals. A spokesman for the group advised they Fwould talk to no one but the press and U. S. Marshals indicating they desired a confrontation with U. S. Marshals. CRIME.ON GOVERNMENT RESERVATION Assistant U. S. Attorney. Chief, Lands Division, San Francisco, advised the FB had no CGR juiisdiction as the. land.was not ceded to U. S. Government and the Army has custodial b6 jurisdiction of the property. There has been ns indication of any b7C San Francisco, filed a complaint and requested Richmond, California.,. Police Department to remove Indians for trespassing.
