GENERAL INVESTIGATIVE DIVISION
This is the case in which 5,500 shares
of ism stock was stolen from the brokerage
house of E. F. Hutton in l968. Nine
hundred shares of this stock were pledged
for a loan at the bank of Key Biscayne,
{Florida. Charles G. "Bebe" Rebozo,~a
close friend of President Nixon, is
president of this bank and was personally
contacted by the individual pledging
Ithe stock.' 'Mr. Rebozo made every effoxt
at the time of accepting the stock to
determine its 'authenticity even to the point
of having the' stock reissued in the name
of the borrower which was accomplished.
despite its stolen character.
Attached teletype 'sets forth fact that
the insurance company which is subrogated
to the brokerage house in. interest is
suing the Key'Biscayne bank and an Agent
of the Miami Office has been subpoeaned to
testify on behalf of the third party
defendant Charles L: Lewis, who pledged
the 'stock. . The Departmental Attorney
representing the Government and the Miami
Office wili move to quash the subpoena
upon receiving concurrence from Department
since criminal prosecutions are stil1
pending (the four individuals referred to
in the attached teletype' pled guilty in
September, 197l) and it is anticipated
that Lewis' attorney will use the civil
suit as a. vehicle for a fishing expedition.
