Informant stated'that the general aim of these science fiction writers is to ftghten-the people into a state of paralysis or psychologigal inaompetenee bordering Third World war in which the American'people would seriously believe couid not be' won since thatr morale had been seriously destroyed.. The informant observed that this appeal taken by the science fiction writers.sympathetic to Communist of scientists who hoid that it^is impossible to conceive of war without threatening the isolation of the Universe. MILTON BUTTREY 901 Hermosa Avenue. Redondo Beach, California (May l,1953) BUTTREy advised that BRADBURY, during the course of a talk before the Southwest Manuscriptors, a writers group, on Noyember 2l, l952, at. Clark Stadium, Hermosa Beach, ridi- culed' the United States Government and the HcuA hearings. Informant described BRaDBuRy as a science fiction writer, whose. work has appeared in numerous magazines and books. Daily Variety (May 23, 1957) The, Daily Variety, a periodical devoted to the entertainment field, Los Angeles, on May 23, l957, reported that RAy BRADBuRy had been elected as a new council member of the WG#w. American Civil Liberties Union (AcLu). (See Appendix)
