opposition to a bill then pending in Gongress which would
have legalized wire tapping, that "while I concede that tho
telophone tap is from time to time of limited value in the
criminal investigative fiold, I frankly and sincerely be-
liove that if a statute of his kind wore enaoted the abuses
arising therefrom would far outweigh the value which might
accrue to law enforcemont as a whole." Furthermore, it was

occasionsl use of wire tapping more than offsets tho good

D.C., petitioner had requosted the Government to produce the
FBI Investigative Roports in connection with the papors
seised from.the defendant Coplon. The Goyernment strongly
objected to the production of said FBI reports and wont so
