II. CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
On October 2l, 196l, NY T-2 advised that
BENNY DE MARIINO is a big man in the juke box
racket having machines all over the Bronx, Mount
Vernon and Yonkers, New York areas.
On December 1, 1960, BENJAMIN DE MARTINOwas
interviewed in connection with another investigation
and he advised at this time that he had had dealings
with VINCENT J. SOUILLANTE concerning juke boxes
in the Bronx, but would not furnish any specifics
regarding this relationship.
On September 24, 1960, NY T-2 advised that
BEMNY DE MARTINO, also known as "Benny the Bum
is a "button man" who works for VINCENT J. SQUILLANTE
in the Bronx, New York.
VINCENT JAMES SQUILLANTE, FBI Humber 7OOIO-C,
was born June 7, l9l7, in New York City. On February
18, 1959, SQurLLANte, with others, received seven and a
half to fifteen years sentence for extortion in the
garbage collection industry. On December 14, 1959,
this conyiction: was reversed by the Appellate
Division of New York State. On November 19, l959,

for rigging bids for garbage collection at Mitchel*
Alr Force Base, Long Island, New York. On November
7, l960, a Bench Warrant was issued following his
failure to appear for trial in United States District
Court, Eastern Distrlet of New York. SQuILlANTE
fugitive.
"Eutton men", according to Ny T-3, are those
who have proven themselves in some matter and were made
'members of the family.
He stated, however, that
*ccasionally an individual would "receive his button"
only because he had a lot of money and influence,
and in fact,had not proven himself.
