BARReTT was advised at the initiation of this interview that he was being contacted telephonically in view of his request that he be contacted in an expeditious manner. BARRETT stated that he did not object to discussing this matter telephonically. BARReTT stated that, by way of background, he partici- pated in a civil rights march in Cummings (Forsyth County). Georgia, on the weekend of January 24, and January 25, of 1987.. BARrerr stated that he did not travel to this destination in any official capacity, but stated that he simply wanted, as a white citizen of the United' States, to make his opinion heard by his very physical presence at the rally in question. BARReTt stated that his participation in this rally, which he stated was covered by representatives of the national. media, both printed and electronic, was without incident as as a citizen of the United States.. BARreTT stated that the specific reason for his contacting the Jackson, Mississippi, Office of the FBI upon his return to Jackson.was that he turned on his answering machine upon his arrival back in Jackson in order to check for any possible messages receiyed during his absence.
