UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION In Reply, Please Refer to Richmond, Virginia File No. October 26, 1978 RE: CITIZEN OF b7C UNITED KINGDOM, PASSPORT NUMBER On October 2, l978, Capital Police Service, State Supreme Court Building, R1chmond, Virginia, telephone number 786- telephonically advised a representative of the. Federal Bureau of Investigation (Fbi) that the above captioned individual had presented himself to the State Supreme Court Building, Richmond, Virginia, and requested to speak with Justice Lewis F. Powell, of the United States Supreme Court. b7C further reguested the home address of Justice Powell, mncating that he wished to speak with Justice Powell. Officer observed to be carrying an object wrapped in a bianxet, voluntarily surrendered same to Officer who upon examination determined it to be an eight millimeter, Model 700, Remington rifle, Serial Number A6578l05, with magazine containing three rounds.. was thereafter arrested by Capital Police for a carrying a concealed weapon. On October 2, 1978, was interviewed by representatives of the FBi at the Richmond Bureau of Police Lockup, Richmond, Virginia. advised he is a citizen of the United.Kingdom, travelling in. the United States of America, under Passport Number has been travelling throughout the United states' since. May 1978. travels included horseback riding expeditions throughout tne western b7C portion of the United States, to include the Rocky Mountain regions; and other backpacking expeditions. stated he. purchased the above described weapon as a means of personal protection against bears and other animals while campina out During the interview, stated that his mother, (maiden name) (deceased in 1974). was empioyed by the British Intelligence auring World War II. further believed that Supreme Court Justice Lewis F. powell was an This document contains neither recommendations nor conclusions of the FBi.
