RE:JEFFREY L. DAHMER
Deputy Assistant Director Larry A. Potts of the.
Criminal Investigative Division (cid) advised the Director that
the FBi had offered assistance in this case to include assistance
with out-of-state lead coverage as well as providing extensive
laboratory examinations and profile information. Contact has
been maintained on a daily basis by cid with the Milwaukee office
and on 7/27/91 and 8/2/91 Linda Davis, Chief of the Criminal
Section, Civil Rights Division, Department of Justice, was
consulted for an opinion as to whether a civil rights inquiry by
the FBr was appropriate. Ms. Davis indicated she did not believe
the facts in this case constitute a violation of the Federal

of the above information.' The Director stated to AAg Dunne that
it seemed appropriate for him to be involved because of the
nature of the problem and the fact that the Community Relations
Service (crs) may have a role to play. The Director made it.
clear to AAg Dunne that the cRs had not been mentioned to
Reverend Jackson. AAg Dunne concurred with the current position
of the FBI and was advised by the Director this would not change
unless we heard from him to the contrary. AAg Dunne agreed to
call Rev. Jackson at local telephone number.
